I always find it hard to write about skiing holidays: those who ski will understand the attraction of roaring downhill in subzero temperatures with planks attached to one's feet; for those who don't, a few words aren't going to convey the experience.

So... some pictures....

Tree skiing in Wildwood Glade from Mary Jane summit
...and another view
On-piste tree skiing on the far side of Mary Jane
View from the main Winter Park summit
...and a gentle warm-up run from this peak
Off-piste skiing on the Parsenn Bowl above the tree line. As Mr EA was trying out telemark skis, my first ever I'm-more-go-for-it-than-he-is moment
Cross-country skiing at the peaceful Devil's Thumb Valley near Fraser. My first time -- it's harder than it looks
Watching the Alpenglow from the gourmet restaurant of a ski lodge, after a hard afternoon's cross-country skiing. Heaven...
Panorama across Winter Park valley
For the curious, Espresso Addict modelling her new ski boots (and very old ski poles) near Winter Park summit
And finally, sunset aflame over Winter Park

If you're a woman in the UK who wants to buy a pair of new(ish) skis, you might be interested in our Ebay item (2005 season ex-demo Salomon Scrambler 7 Pilot W all-terrain skis & S711 bindings). In the not-inconceivable event that they don't receive the asking price on Ebay, we'd be happy to sell them privately.

If anyone happens to be interested in my old ski boots I'd be happy to pass them on for the price of the postage: Lange Anthea ladies size 6.5 (mid-entry with four clips & a velcro strap in dark green). They would suit beginner/intermediate with wide feet & what the boot retailers politely call 'athletic calves'

Lovely pictures. I never really got the hang of skiing (no sense of balance) but I used to love the atmosphere, and above all the mountain scenery. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! I'm a completely hopeless skier (I shot one of my knees at university, which doesn't help), but I simply adore sitting in mountain top cafes & drinking vin chaud with a sense of achievement at the end of the day.

That's one hell of a sunset. And it all looks pretty good in daylight, too.

Thanks! I think the camera was probably yearning for red/yellow tints by then, after all the white & green.

We had a lovely pink-and-blue sunset here this evening. And my cherry tree is just coming into blossom.

We have four cherries, but I don't think any of them are blossoming yet. Is your one particularly early, or are ours all late?

Oh, I thought mine must be late, as my neighbour's has been in flower for a few weeks! Maybe it depends on the variety. Mine's been in bud for ages, but only this warm weather seems to have tempted the first few flowers - hope the rest will follow over the next week.

Trundled round the garden this afternoon to check for stray blooms but none of ours (five, as it turns out) are even in bud yet.

Thanks, Ithilwen! The Alps are more obviously photogenic, I think, but the tree skiing does look very pretty.

Welcome home! It looks lovely and very peaceful and uncrowded. When I attempted cross-country I was completely knackered.

Thanks, EoR! Winter Park is uncrowded compared with Alpine resorts, or even the better-known CO resorts; it gets a lot of weekenders from Denver but it's almost deserted during the week. Cross country is indeed extremely knackering on the thighs, but luckily it uses a different set of muscles from downhill :) I did have a lot of trouble walking downstairs when we got back!

Really pretty! And so peaceful. I've never been skiing. I have to try one of these days. (Though my mum reckons that the metal rod from when I broke my leg would conduct the cold too much and I wouldn't be able to cope).

Thanks, Eledhwen! Rowing is pretty good cross-training for skiing, so you'd probably find it very easy to get into. I shouldn't think the metal would be too much of a problem - half the skiing instructors I've met ski all day all season with various patches, and modern ski wear is extremely warm.

Those are lovely. I do like the Alpenglow, and the fiery sunset. And I also like the one of you too.

[Sorry for taking a while to look at these!]

These are gorgeous! I love the alpenglow, and the sunset must have been unbelievable in person. Fabulous.

Thank you for posting them!

Thanks, Glitterboy! The alpenglow was a heartwarming end to a really pleasant day.
